Fresno's Immigration Landscape

The recent arrival of Venezuelan families seeking asylum has thrust Fresno into the national spotlight. While many of these individuals have upcoming immigration hearings, others are on hold until 2027. That delay is not surprising, considering that the nationwide backlog of immigration cases has impacted Fresno and other parts of the state. As of early 2024, there are approximately 350,000 pending cases in California.

At Martinez Immigration, we know waiting for updates is challenging and stressful. However, we do all we can to ensure your documentation is accurate and complete and that your application is filed on time. We can help you avoid delays and errors. Our mission to reunite families drives us to succeed.

Family-Based Immigration

A U.S. citizen, Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR), or Green Card Holder can sponsor an immediate relative who wants to live permanently in this country. There are two types of family-based immigrant visas

  1. Immediate Relative: These visas are reserved for individuals for a member of their immediate family. Citizens can sponsor a spouse, unmarried children under 21, or parents. There is no limit to the number of these visas issued every year.
  2. Family Preference: A limited number of family preference visas are available each year for other relatives of a U.S. citizen, such as siblings. Family Preference also includes the spouses and unmarried children of legal permanent residents (Green Card holders).

We discuss your situation to determine if you and your loved ones are eligible for family-based immigration and which visa to apply for.

Employment-Based Immigration

Each year, a limited number of employment-based immigration visas become available for qualified applicants under U.S. Immigration provisions. There are five categories of immigration visas based on the skills and nature of the applicant’s employment.

To start this process, the applicant’s future employer or agent must obtain a labor certification approval from the Department of Labor and file Form I-140 Immigration Petition for Alien Worker. We help applicants and employers navigate this process and also assist workers’ spouses and children seeking to join their loved ones in the U.S.
